Mary Beth Gerdes

Mary Beth Gerdes

Mary Beth Gerdes, age 90, of Chicago and most recently of Palatine. Beloved wife of the late Gregory V. Gerdes. Loving mother, grandmother, and soon to be great-grandmother. Cherished fur-mother to Jack. Mary Beth grew up in Chicago, where she received her high school diploma in 1948 from Gage Park at 57th and Rockwell. Mary Beth loved to dance, at age 89 she was still regularly attending aerobic dance classes at the YMCA in Palatine.  She attended Indiana University at Bloomington for two years. She is an Alumnus of Theta Phi Alpha, Catholic women’s sorority. She was enrolled in the School of Business and became quite proficient in secretarial work. Mary Beth met her husband Greg at IU at a Catholic Newman Club picnic on campus, and it was love at first sight. They were married July 14, 1951 at St. Rita’s Church in Chicago. Her ability to make friends and acquaintances was sometimes unbelievable. She loved to laugh, and her sense of humor rates best with those who love humor. Mary Beth can be best described as an endearing and enduring mother and a fastidious and meticulous homemaker. Her greatest attribute is her love for her husband, their children, and grandchildren.
