Marvin Lee Bailey, 87, of Iowa City, passed away on Saturday, May 4, 2024 at the Lone Tree Health Care Center with family by his side.

Marvin was born January 2, 1937, to Charles and Millie (née Kingery) Bailey at their home in rural Knoxville, Iowa. Marvin attended country school through eighth grade. He graduated from Knoxville High School in 1955. Immediately following graduation, he enlisted in the United States Army and was discharged in 1958.

He worked at the Knoxville Veterans Hospital as a nursing assistant until 1967.

He married Lorraine Clark in 1959 and they lived in Knoxville until 1967. They had four children: Regenia, Randy, Rebecca and Reva.

In 1967, they moved to Iowa City so Marvin could attend college. He earned his Bachelor of Science in Nursing. After completion of college in 1971, he was employed at the Iowa City Veterans Hospital until his retirement in 1994.

He was preceded in death by his parents, sister, two brothers, his in-laws, his infant daughter and his son. He is survived by his wife Lorraine, his daughters Regenia and Reva and her husband Jon, three grandchildren: Zachary, Sam and Spencer and daughter-in-law Laura.

A celebration of Marvin’s life will be held from 1:00-3:00 pm at The Kirkwood Room (515 Kirkwood Avenue, Iowa City) on Sunday, June 9, 2024. Memorial donations can be directed to the American Diabetes Association or in support of the University of Iowa Wrestling Development Fund in care of the University of Iowa Center for Advancement.
