Marlene K. Carter, age 90, of Brooklyn, passed away Thursday, February 8, 2024, at Brooklyn Community Estate. A memorial service will be held at 11:00 A.M., Saturday, February 17, 2024, at Kloster Funeral Home, Brooklyn with Rev. Josh Gerard officiating. Burial will be in the Brooklyn Memorial Cemetery, Brooklyn. The family will receive friends from 10:00 A.M. to 11:00 A.M., Saturday, February 17, 2024, at Kloster Funeral Home, Brooklyn. Memorials may be directed to the East Poweshiek Ambulance.

Marlene is survived by her daughter Kathy Hash, daughter-in-law Vicki Hobbs; four grandchildren Chris Hash (Amy Holland), Sara (Aaron) Meyer, Jamie (Kameron) Hobbs and Jill Hobbs (Ryan York); 11 great-grandchildren Kayleigh, Kylee, and Gaige Holland, Brooklyn and Peyton Meyer, Brock, and Alexis York, Danika Kirchner, Gabriela and Jack Hobbs, and Devan Earll; a sister Gail Holland; and a niece Susan Zanatta and nephew Steven Holland.

She is preceded in death by her parents, her husband Carl in 1998, a son Duane Hobbs, brother Eugene Wheeler, sister-in-law Darlene Wheeler, brother-in-law Larry Holland, and a special friend Charles Moyer.

Marlene Katherine Wheeler was born June 23, 1933, in Brooklyn, the daughter of Glen and Gladys Hiner Wheeler. She graduated from Brooklyn High School in 1951. Marlene was united in marriage to Carl Carter December 10, 1958, in Kirksville, Missouri. The couple wintered in Arizona for several years. Faith was very important to Marlene. She enjoyed woodworking, anything outdoors including gardening, flowers, and mowing her yard. Marlene’s grandchildren said she was known for her knack at making the best pumpkin pie. She especially loved her family and taking care of them. She will be greatly missed.
