Mark T. Books – Mark staining

Mark T. Books, 66, of Petersburg, passed away on Monday, February 1, 2021 at Memorial Medical Center. He was born October 24, 1954 in Springfield, to Edward and Annetta Turley Books, Sr. He married Doreen in 2007 and she survives.

Also surviving are his mother, Annetta Turley Books; his siblings, Edward (Carla) Books, Jr. of Bloomington, George (Bonnie) Books of Springfield, Wayne (Aquilla) Books of Petersburg and Brenda (Jack) Books of Sherman; one aunt; seven nieces and nephews; sixteen great nieces and nephews with another on the way.

He was preceded in death by his father, Edward Books, Sr.

Mark attended Lanphier High School, graduating in 1972 and earned a Bachelor’s Degree from Eastern IL University in 1976. He worked for the IL Environmental Protection Agency for 33 years.

Mark was a lifelong member of St. John’s Lutheran Church in Springfield, where he was a Stephen’s Minister and worked and volunteered in various capacities, most recently as Property Committee Chairman. He was an avid outdoorsman, considering himself an Illinois mountain man, a conservationist and enjoyed deer and turkey hunting. He belonged to the Springfield Ski Club and a private volleyball group. He was also a Hot Shot Forest Firefighter from 1977 – 1978 in Oregon and Washington states. He was a friend to all and never knew a stranger, though one of his nicknames was “Trouble”.

Visitation: 9 am – 10:45 am, Thursday, February 4, 2021 at St. John’s Lutheran Church – Springfield.

Funeral Service: Private family service at St. John’s Lutheran Church – Springfield with Pastor Greg Busboom and Pastor Pam Mitcham officiating. Burial will follow at Farmers Point Cemetery in Menard County.
