Marjorie Ann McFate, 95, of Cedar Rapids, died on Saturday, December 23, 2023. Funeral Mass: 10:30 a.m., Friday St. Pius Catholic Church by Rev. Jon Seda. Burial: Mt. Calvary Cemetery. A Vigil Service will be held Thursday, 3 p.m., at Teahen Funeral Home, where friends may visit with the family on Thursday from after the Vigil until 7 p.m., and on Friday at the church after 9:30 a.m.

Marjorie is survived by her daughter, Janet (Peter) Teahen of Robins; son, Robert (Laura) Hamlin of Olathe, Kan.; 4 grandchildren, Spencer Wilhem of Hiawatha, and Olivia, Rachel and Matthew Hamlin, all of Olathe, KS; sisters, Rose Mary Beadle of Cedar Rapids, Marilyn Gooding of Iowa Falls and Virginia Storjohann of Centennial, CO; brother, Larry Ockenfels of Swisher; daughter, Judy Peterson of Marion; son, Ron McFate of Eldridge; and sister-in-law, Betty Ockenfels.

She was preceded in death by her first husband, LaVern Hamlin in 1985; second husband, Raymond McFate in 2004; siblings, Mort (Marceyne) Ockenfels, Dick Ockenfels, Therese (Roger Johnson/Claire Rausch) Johnson, and Carolyn (Mert) Dohrer; and sister-in-law, Mary Ockenfels.

Marjorie was born on November 27, 1928 in Norway, daughter of John and Lillian Delaney Ockenfels. After attending St. Peter Catholic School and several rural schools, she graduated in 1947 from Tama High School. Marjorie married LaVern Hamlin on August 24, 1950 and following his death, she married Raymond McFate on October 11, 1990 in Marion. She was an accounts payable bookkeeper for Rockwell Collins. Marjorie was a member of St. Pius Catholic Church, past member of St. Joseph Church, and volunteered for many years at the Mercy Medical Center Gift Shop.

Marjorie enjoyed square and ballroom dancing, traveling and spending time with her family and friends. She loved to shop, eat at Olive Garden and go on walks. Marge had beautiful blue eyes, a sweet smile and a quick sense of humor. Her infectious laugh could make a day brighter and turn any frown into a smile. Marjorie was a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend who will be dearly missed.

Instead of flowers, memorials may be directed to the family for an established memorial fund.
