Marie Kathryn Marek, 95, of Cedar Rapids, passed away on Saturday, Sept. 24, 2022, surrounded by her beloved family at Terrace Glen Village. A visitation will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 29, at the Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home. Funeral Mass will be at 10 a.m. Friday, Sept. 30, at All Saints Catholic Church, with a one hour visitation prior to Mass, starting at 9 a.m. Entombment will follow at the Cedar Memorial Park Mausoleum.

Marie is survived by her children, Alys (Stan) Hawk of Hillsboro, Ore., Kathy (Steve) Heyer and Jim (Cara) Marek, both of Cedar Rapids, Iowa; granddaughters, Meleah (Luke) Jones and Erica Marek; great-grandchildren, Lila, Landon, Leighton and Lainey Jones; sister, Flora (Pat) McMullen of Ormond Beach, Fla.; and brother, Matt (Sharon) Perry of Libertyville, Ill.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 56 years, Maynard; parents; sister, Rita Karnik; and brothers, Rev. Francis Perry, Robert Perry, Jerome Perry and Leo Perry.

Marie was born on Jan. 15, 1927, in St Lucas, Iowa, daughter of Matthew and Theresa (Blong) Perry. She graduated from St. Luke’s Catholic High School in St. Lucas. On Oct. 2, 1954, she married Maynard Marek at St. Luke’s Catholic Church, and then moved to Cedar Rapids. She was employed by Iowa National Mutual Insurance Co.

Marie and Maynard were members of All Saints Catholic Church since 1954. Marie was involved in Eucharistic Ministry, Martha’s, Young at Heart, Resurrection Choir and St Anne’s Circle. She enjoyed sewing, piano, gardening and family vacations. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. Her faith and family were the center of her life. She was dearly loved and will be greatly missed.

Memorial donations may be made to All Saints Catholic Church, St Jude’s Children’s Hospital or any charity of choice.
