Margaret Glen Bost

Our mom, Margaret (Mickey) Bost, died peacefully in her home at The Bridge at Lake Pointe Landing in Hendersonville, on Saturday, Nov. 20, 2021, after a short illness. She was 89, and would have celebrated her 90th birthday in January. Mom was born in Chicago to Robert and Catherine James, the 4th of 5 children. She graduated from New Trier High School in Winnetka in 1949, and headed off to the University of Illinois Champagne/Urbana for a semester before deciding that she wanted to be a nurse. She had completed most of the nursing program when she met a handsome redhead (Ward Bost, Jr) on a blind date and that was that. Dad was in the Air Force, and they went to San Antonio for a few years after they were married. After his service and with daughter Peg in tow, they went back to Chicago. A few years and 2 children (Janet and Tom) later, they moved to Kalamazoo, Michigan. Dad worked and mom rode herd on the gang of children, with one more added (Cathy). Her nursing experience came in handy, and we all remember her telling us, after our bumps and falls, “I think you’ll live,” (with a smile).

Mom loved to cook, bake, sew, decorate for the holidays, and read. She was famous in the family for her apple slab pie, christened by Tom as “apple crap” and forever known by that name. She loved elephants, and amassed quite a collection over the years; last count she had over 50! One of her favorite memories was of riding elephants in Thailand with Dad. She volunteered in the local libraries for many years. After Dad’s retirement in 1990 they moved to Flat Rock, NC, and spent many a happy year exploring the area and enjoying their time together.  She and Dad were married for 51 years before he passed away in 2003. She then eventually moved to Lake Pointe Landing, where she and her best friend and partner in crime, Adelaide Ritter, kept everyone entertained with their silly and creative costumes for the various holidays. She had a funny sense of humor, and got a big kick out of seeing and hearing her first great-grandchild Ryan (age 14 months) say “poop” to her on FaceTime, a few days before she died. Payback for the time that she and Dad taught little Jonathan some swear words! Mom was the last of 5 siblings (3 sisters,1 brother) all deceased.

She is survived by her four children and their families (daughter Peg and son-in-law Bill Albrets of Cupertino, CA; daughter Janet and son-in-law Rick Lake, of Phoenix, AZ; son Tom and daughter-in-law, Irene of Denver, CO; daughter Cathy and son-in-law Al Pratt of New Bern, NC), eight grandchildren (Catherine Albrets and husband Dan Powell of Boston, MA; Robert Albrets and wife Lauren of Denver, CO; Kristin Pratt and husband Jessie Richardson of Georgetown, KY; Nikki Pratt and husband Dusty Cox of Durham NC; Owen Pratt of New Bern, NC; Jonathan Bost of New York City; Meg Bost and husband Isaac Barlet of Durham, NC; Amy Bost of Denver, CO) and one great-grandchild, Ryan. She is also survived by her sister-in-law, Doris Ruleman of Memphis, Tennessee, and her dear friend George Halsey of Hendersonville.

We are planning a family celebration of life at a later date.

Donations, in lieu of flowers, to Four Seasons Hospice, Hendersonville gratefully accepted in gratitude for their care.
