Loving mother to Mary (the late Terry) Johnson, Tim, Bill (Geryl), Mike (Kate) and the late Patti (Bob) Ackley. Cherished grandmother to Tim (Ellen) Johnson, Matt (Laura) Ackley, Lauren (Matt) Frye, Dan (Susan) Johnson, Allison (Aaron) Moyer, Libby (Brian) Bouril, Gillian (Tommy) Hermes, Brian (Annie) Cerney, Brendan Cerney, Annie (Adam) Cremieux, John Cerney, Carolyn Cerney, Katie Ackley, Kim Ackley, Michael (Sarah) Johnson, Mary Kate (Ian) Wojcikiewcz, Meredith (Shawn) Handler, Maggie Cerney, Drew Cerney, Ryan (Rachael) Cerney and the late Billy Cerney. Adored great-grandmother to 28. Dear sister of Therese (the late Gerry) Bornhofen and the late William, Jack (Dolly), and Eddie O’Rourke. Margaret—“Sis” or “Marge” to many loved ones—was known for her infectious smile that would light up a room. Her quick wit and deadpan humor could make anyone laugh. Margaret loved all things Chicago, whether it be riding her bike through the streets, or cheering for the local sports teams. She will always be remembered for her loyal support at her kids’ and grandchildren’s events and games. Margaret was never shy, and had a penchant for spontaneously breaking out in a soulful rendition of an Aretha Franklin tune, and even God Bless America. Margaret will be missed dearly, but her larger than life spirit and legacy will continue to touch the lives of many for years to come. A visitation will be held on Thursday, June 30 from 3-8pm at Smith-Corcoran Funeral Home, 185 E. Northwest Highway, Palatine IL 60067. A funeral mass will be held on Friday, July 1 at 10am St. Theresa Catholic Church, 455 N Benton St, Palatine, IL 60067. Interment Mt. Carmel Cemetery.
