M. Elaine Crowell

M. Elaine Crowell 74, of Springfield, died at 10:55 am, Tuesday, April 4, 2023, at her home. She was born January 25, 1949 in Springfield, to James L. and Ethel Louise Blankenship Peyton. She married Richard “Dale” Crowell in 1986 and he preceded her in death on November 25, 1998.

Survivors include five children, Brian Fliflet of Chicago, Jason (Marie) Fliflet of Auburn, Megan Crowell (Justin Rose) of Chatham, Sarah (David) Kienzler of Rochester and Christopher Crowell of Springfield; one step-daughter, Kathleen (Steve) Sichrovsky of Glen Ellen; eight grandchildren, Alyssa Sichrovsky, Ashly and Alexander Fliflet, Adilynn, Anden and Ainsley Rose and Owen and Nolan Kienzler; five siblings, John (Connie) Peyton of Warsaw, IN, Donald (Debra) Peyton of Springfield, Mary (Hobart) Murphy of Chatham, Sylvia (Tom) Sherertz of Springfield and Robert Peyton of Spirit Lake and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; son, Steven P. Crowell; two brothers, Jimmy and Ronald Peyton; infant sister, Ann Peyton and two sisters-in-law, Melody Peyton and Geraldine “Geri” Peyton.

Elaine was a member of Third Presbyterian Church where she was very active. She was an avid gardener, doting grandmother, and “handy woman”.
She worked for Ameritech for thirty-five years and later owned Fresh Start Landscaping.

Visitation: 4-7 pm, Tuesday, April 11, 2023 at Staab Funeral Home – Springfield.

Funeral Service: 11 am, Wednesday, April 12, 2023 at Staab Funeral Home with Pastor Joanne Hinds officiating. Burial will follow at Chatham Memorial Cemetery.

Memorials may be made to Third Presbyterian Church, Meals on Wheels, any organization that caters to shut ins, or to plant something in memory of Elaine.
