Lynn Beatrice Evans was born June 1, 1938, in St. Louis, MO, the daughter of Everett and Helen (Beste) Holdinghaus. Lynn grew up and was baptized in St. Anne, MO and was confirmed in Christ in the Lutheran Church-Missouri Synod on June 3, 1956 after she graduated high school. She then graduated from Concordia Teachers College in River Forest, IL and moved to rural Williamsburg, IA in her early twenties to begin her Lutheran school teaching career. Lynn was united in marriage to Murray Howard Evans on July 25, 1964, in Williamsburg, and began a new chapter of her life as a farm wife and dedicated stay-at-home mom. Lynn was a faithful member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Williamsburg, where she was very active in the Ladies Aide and Iowa District East-Lutheran Women’s Missionary League, serving as President for many years, as well as Sunday School, Bible studies, and Vacation Bible School. She was also a member of the Iburg Poulson VFW Post Auxiliary and loved helping with Iowa County 4-H. Lynn enjoyed various hobbies to include gardening, baking, quilting, knitting, and watching University of Iowa women’s basketball. The joy of her life was her family and seeing her grandchildren. Her biggest passion was sharing the Good News of Christ with others. Lynn was welcomed into Jesus’ eternal embrace on Monday, September 30, 2024, at the English Valley Care Center in North English, at the age of 86 years.

She is survived by her son Wayne (Michelle) Evans, of Indianapolis, IN; daughter Sandra (Rob) Rich, of Effingham, IL; 13 grandchildren: Angela, Gavin, Allon, Breonna, Kody, Branden and Shon Evans, Paul Gillet, Hannah Gillet, Bethany (Jonathan) Svoboda, Hunter Rich, Elizabeth Gillet, and Sophia Gillet. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Murray in 2022, and 2 brothers, Jim and Don Holdinghaus.

Celebration of Life Service will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, October 5, 2024, at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Williamsburg. Visitation will be 4:00-6:00 p.m. Friday at Powell Funeral Home in Williamsburg. Burial will be in the Harrington Cemetery, rural Williamsburg (York Township). Memorials may be given to Iowa District East-LMWL Missions Funds, Lutheran Interparish School, Wounded Warriors Project, or the English Valley Care Center.
