Lumir Melsha, 84, of Swisher, passed away on Friday, Nov. 4, 2022, in his home. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 9, at Brosh Chapel and The Avacentre in Cedar Rapids, located at 2121 Bowling St., SW. Funeral Mass will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday, Nov.10, at St. Ludmila Catholic Church, with burial to follow in Anderson Cemetery, Swisher, Iowa, where full military rites will be conducted.

Lumir was born Jan. 3, 1938, in Cedar Rapids, the son of Joseph “Jike” and Lilyan (Urban) Melsha. He graduated from Wilson High School in 1956. He served in the U.S. Navy from 1955-63, being stationed in Guam for two of those years. Lumir was united in marriage to Marilyn Ann Donovan on Oct. 3, 1959, in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. He worked at Collins Radio, drove a beer truck for many years and tended bar at Melsha Tap.

Lumir is survived by his wife, Marilyn; his children, Doug (Heidi) Melsha, Mike (Shar) Melsha and Dean (Kris) Melsha; grandchildren, AJ and Travis Melsha, Ben (Loryn) and Alex Richard and Kyle Saulsbury; sister, Lilyan “Ginger” Serbousek; daughter-in-law, Lorraine Melsha; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; stepfather, Harold Sirowy; son, Joe; brother, Bruce Melsha; in-laws, Vincent and Alice Donovan; brothers-in-law, Denis and Dean Donovan and Richard Serbousek; and sister-in-law, Mary Anne Donovan.
