Louis “Lou” Catalano

Louis “Lou” Catalano, 86, of Springfield, passed away on Friday, April 23, 2021 at Regency Care. He was born September 5, 1934, in Springfield, the son of Salvatore and Marie Folisie Catalano. He married Dorothy Porto on October 2, 1957 and she preceded him in death September 17, 2000.

Louis is also preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, Vince, Joseph and Carlo Catalano; and two sisters, Mary Nolan and Josie Petcher.

Survivors include his son, Rocco Louis Catalano of Springfield, and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Louis was a resident of Springfield all of his life. He graduated from Springfield High School and belonged to St. Joseph Catholic Church. He was a US Army veteran serving as a paratrooper from 1957 – 1959.

Louis was a fire fighter with the Springfield Fire Department. He enjoyed gardening and was very meticulous while he gardened. He loved sports and was an avid fan of the Chicago Cubs and Chicago Bears. Louis was proud of his Italian heritage.

Funeral Mass: 10:00 am, Friday, April 30, 2021 at St. Joseph Church with Reverend Manuel P. Cuizon, C.R.S. officiating. Burial will follow at Calvary Cemetery where military honors will be conducted.

Memorial contributions may be made to St. Joseph Catholic Church.
