Loretta “Lou” Marietta Carroll Konsler

Loretta “Lou” Marietta Carroll Konsler, 91, of Hendersonville, died Tuesday, December 28, 2021, at Pardee Hospital.

A native of Lynch, KY, she was the daughter of the late Michael Carroll and Margaret Marietta Carroll.  She is also preceded in death by a brother, Edward Carroll and a daughter, Elizabeth “Beth” Konsler Mills.

Lou was a graduate of Lynch Elementary, Nazareth Academy High School, St. Mary of the Woods College, and obtained a B.S. degree in Social Work from the University of Kentucky. She was formally employed at the Kentucky Child Welfare and the Kentucky Children’s Bureau.  Lou had previous residence in Lynch, KY, Lexington, KY, and Raleigh, NC before moving to Hendersonville in 1960.

She was a member of Immaculate Conception Roman Catholic Church.  Lou volunteered at Trend Mental Health Center, Interfaith Assistance Ministries, Open Arms Pregnancy Center, and The Storehouse. She was a founding member of the Friday Morning Quilters.

All who knew Lou will remember her strong faith and generous spirit.  Nobody left the “big house” without a meal and hug!  Her love of quilting and knitting brought Lou special joy.  Even while undergoing treatments, she made dozens of hats and quilts for donation to children in need.  Her humor, grace, and strength will continue to inspire us all.

She is survived by her loving husband of 67 years, Thomas “Tom” R. Konsler, Sr.; four daughters, Mary Ellen Edmonds (Bob) of Summerfield, NC, Kathleen Lindsey of Harrodsburg, KY, Barbara Molton (Howard) of Hendersonville, NC, and Carol Belk of Hendersonville, NC; four sons, Michael Konsler of Skagway, AK, Bryan Konsler of Hendersonville, NC, Thomas Konsler, Jr. (Gwen) of Chapel Hill, NC, and Joseph Konsler of Fletcher, NC; a son-in-law, Mark Mills (Beth) of Nashville NC; seventeen grandchildren, Jessica Owenby (Brooks), Jennifer Bellamy (Scott), Marie Lindsey, Sarah Nel (Ethan), Bryan Lindsey (Rachel), Rebecca Edmonds, Jacob Mills (Michelle), Amanda Schwartz (Jeff), Thomas Lindsey, Lucas Mills, Brice Molton (Lexis), Allison Edmonds, Madison Belk, Kimber Belk, Morgan Konsler, Leyla Belk, and Will Konsler; and three great-grandchildren, Libby Owenby, Garrett Owenby, and Jameson Lindsey.

A memorial Mass will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday, January 1, 2022, at Immaculate Conception Roman Catholic Church.  The family will receive friends from 4:00 PM to 6:00 PM on Friday, December 31, 2021, at Shuler Funeral Home.  The family requests that masks be worn at the visitation and service.
