Loretta Ann Angerer died peacefully at home on Thursday, October 31, 2024 surrounded by her family. She recently celebrated her 100th birthday.
Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, November 15, 2024 at 10:30 AM St. Patrick’s Catholic Church. The Rosary will be recited at 10 AM, prior to the Mass. Per her wishes, she is being cremated and her ashes interred with her husband’s ashes. Burial will be at St. Joseph Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Iowa City Hospice, whose caring staff were sincerely appreciated over the past year.
Loretta was born September 19, 1924 in Iowa City at Plum Grove. She was a lifelong resident of Iowa City and, the daughter of David “Webb” and Anna Frances Hughes (née Cerney). Loretta graduated from City High School in 1943. On September 7, 1947 Loretta married Kent Angerer. They had five children and traveled extensively throughout the world.
Loretta loved to travel, play bridge, golf, gamble, watch Perry Mason, bowl with the “Wednesday Wonders Bowling League” and had a great sense of humor. She was a committed supporter of many local charities and the arts, notably to Regina Catholic Education Center, City High School and Hancher Auditorium among many others. She was a member of St. Patrick’s Church for over 50 years. Most important to Loretta, however, were her family and many friends.
Loretta is survived by her children, Linda (Roger) Mildenstein, April Neppl, Margaret Stephenson, Melanie Ihrig (Lou Tassinary), and Brent (Linda) Angerer; eight grandchildren and eleven great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Loretta was preceded in death by her husband, Kent, son-in-law, Bob Neppl, son-in-law Tim Stephenson, and siblings, Helen, Elias, Everett, Adele and Charlotte.
The date, time and location of a Celebration of Life will be announced at a later date.
