Cedar Rapids

Loren (Larry) Dean Cope died Sunday, July 28, 2024. He was born on May 29, 1949, in Cedar Rapids, IA to Harold Duane Cope and Joyce Colleen Cope. He was the oldest of four children, Linda (Gene) Parks, Cindy (Mike) Terry, and Judy Tatro.

He was a blue-collar guy who enjoyed working with his hands, which were usually dirty with grease from car parts, saw dust and stain from refinishing furniture, and lead from drawing. In his younger years he could be found underneath a car, riding motorcycles, and enjoying the outdoors. As he found his wife, Pamela Marie Hubbard, and married on September 19, 1981, he immediately became a father and his priorities changed to becoming a family man. He worked at the Cedar Rapids Community Schools for 28 years and part-time at the Cedar Valley Humane Society as grounds keeper for 9 years. As the years marched on, he watched his girls, Sara Marie (Paul) Schwerin and Elizabeth Ann Hartman, grow up and become women, wives, and mothers. He watched his grandchildren, Jayson, Chloe, Ayla, Fiona, Aniah, Lizzie, and Ayden, grow into young adults. Even in his retirement he kept busy by working as the Assistant Manager at Eagle Ridge part-time for 5 years and Midwest Janitorial part-time. He frequently went on car trips to casinos, flea markets, and classic car shows, ensuring that everyone in the car knew he loved to sing. When he wasn’t traveling, he loved watching Westerns, Hawkeye football and basketball, and pencil drawing. He loved his wife who kept him grounded and took care of him as the years aged. He will always be remembered as a strong, loving, and lively person.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Harold and Joyce Cope, and his sister Judy Tatro.

Survivors include wife Pamela, two daughters, Sara (Paul) Schwerin and Elizabeth Hartman, and seven grandchildren, Jayson, Chloe, Ayla, Fiona, Aniah, Lizzie, and Ayden.

A visitation will be held at Cedar Memorial Funeral Home on Thursday, August 1 from 4 pm to 6 pm. Funeral on Friday, August 2 at 1 pm at Cedar Memorial Funeral Home.
