Ryan

Lois Ann McNamara, 71, of Ryan, Iowa, passed away on Saturday, April 8, 2023, at her home in Ryan, Iowa. She was born on Sept. 15, 1951, in Anamosa, the daughter of Donald and Shirley (Dirks) Richmond. She was raised in the Ryan area and graduated from West Delaware High School in 1969. After graduation, she moved to Cedar Rapids and attended and graduated from cosmetology school.

On May 20, 1972, Lois was united in marriage to Joseph McNamara at the Little Brown Church, in Nashua. Together they made their home in Ryan. Lois worked as a hairdresser with Patty Lyness in Ryan, eventually she went to work for Tredegar and retired in 2000, to spend time with Joe and her grandchildren.

Lois was a great cook, she made countless homemade meals for family holidays and graduation parties (she made the best turkey and dressing sandwiches). She loved planting and growing her garden, shopping (especially at Von Maur), summertime, sunshine, the town of Ryan and afternoon naps with her great-grandson. Lois was a woman of great faith. She never missed Mass and was very involved and a great volunteer at St. Patrick Church. Lois was at heart a caretaker and would give the shirt off her back. Taking care of others was her love language. Lois was the best grandma! She held weekend slumber parties; waited with the grandkids for the bus and had each grandchild’s favorite snack ready after day care. Lois attended many of her children and grandchildren’s ball games. She was truly a family woman. Lois loved spending time with family and was very proud of her husband, children, grandchildren and brothers and sisters.

Survivors include her husband, Joseph McNamara of Ryan; their four children, Angie (Michael) Corcoran of Ryan, Stacey (Jason) Haight of Manchester, Chad (Amber) McNamara of Cedar Rapids and Ron (Joan) Boardman of Arlington; her mother, Shirley Richmond of Anamosa; seven grandchildren, Kyleigh (Matt) Marbach, Stone McNamara, Tyler Boardman, Cooper Corcoran, Connor Boardman, Presley Mussman and Caleb Boardman; one great-grandson, McClain Marbach; her siblings, Andy “Butch” (Lynn) Richmond of Ryan, Linda (Daniel) Fangmann of Earlville, Tom Richmond of Anamosa, Dee (Mark) Kolka and Shannon (Philip) Payne, both of Ryan; and many nieces, nephews, cousins and sisters-in-law.

Lois was preceded in death by her father, Donald Richmond; and special aunt, Rita Corrigan.
