Linda L. Burgess, 79, of Springfield, died at 8:20 am, Monday, March 28, 2022, at Springfield Memorial Hospital. She was born on March 5, 1943, in Springfield, the daughter of John and Helen (Fleischacker) Filcsak. She married John S. Burgess on February 12, 1971 and he survives.
Also surviving are two sons, Mark Burgess and Brett (Lori) Burgess, both of Springfield; four grandchildren, Andrew, Aleta, Mary, and David Burgess; one sister, Barb (Jim) Williams of Winter Garden, FL; brother-in-law, Richard Burris of Springfield; daughter-in-law, Deanna Burgess of Springfield; Victor Salguero (John’s Life Partner) of Chicago; one niece, two nephews; and several great-nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; son, John R. Burgess; and sister, Joanne Burris.
Linda was resident of Springfield all her life. She retired from the State of Illinois Department of Human Services after 33 years as a Quality Assurance Manager. She was a lifelong member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church.
She loved her volunteer work with St. Katherine Drexel Parish. She enjoyed shopping, gambling in St. Louis, eating crab legs, and was a loyal Chicago Cubs fan.
Memorial Gathering: 10 – 11 am Friday, April 1, 2022 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church.
Memorial Mass: 11 am Friday, April 1, 2022 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, with Reverend Jim Isaacson officiating. Burial will follow at Rochester Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Sacred Heart Catholic Church or St. Martin de Porres.
