Leroy Theodore Wieser, 97, of Robins, died peacefully on Saturday, May 25, 2024.
Leroy was born November 20, 1926, the son of Joe and Clara (Kofmehl) Wieser in Independence, Iowa. He was the middle child of seven.
He was raised on a farm in rural Jesup, where he attended country school. He farmed with his family when they moved to Hopkinton and Winthrop. Leroy was drafted into the Army in 1953 and honorably discharged in 1955. He later worked for the State of Iowa for 19 years.
Leroy married Theresa Drahozal on November 29, 1974 at Saint Ludmila Catholic Church in Cedar Rapids. They were married for almost 50 years. They lived in Independence and Urbana, prior to moving to Emery Place in Robins.
He loved volunteering, especially delivering Meals On Wheels in Buchanan and Benton Counties for 19 years; St. Luke’s Hospital; the Salvation Army as a cook and bell ringer; Benton County Home, delivered meals in Cedar Rapids during the flood and various community organizations. He also volunteered as a Park Ranger in Alaska. Leroy and Theresa volunteered for two special projects for Earthwatch to Belize and Swaziland. They also made 8 trips to Mississippi to assist in the rebuilding after Hurricane Katrina and upkeep at the Center for the Deaf.
Leroy’s favorite activities included fishing, hunting and most of all, gardening. He shared his produce with the Senior Centers in Buchanan and Benton Counties.
Leroy was a Life Master in the American Contract Bridge League.
He was preceded in death by his parents and all six siblings.
There will be no services. His body was donated to the Deeded Donor Program at the University of Iowa, with a future burial at the Veterans Cemetery in Van Meter, Iowa. Papich-Kuba Funeral Service serving the family.
