Leonard “Tom” Schallau, 86, of Cedar Rapids, formerly of Keystone, passed away on Sunday, August 25, 2024 at Unity Point St. Luke’s Hospital in Cedar Rapids.

Graveside services with military rites will be held at 11:15 AM, Friday, August 30, 2024, at Calvary Cemetery, south of Van Horne on Highway 30. Visitation will be held, prior to the graveside service from 10:00 until 11:00 AM Friday at the Phillips Funeral Home in Keystone.

Tom was born on May 22, 1938, in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, the son of Leonard and Ella (Burmeister) Schallau. He graduated from Keystone High School with the class of 1956. Tom served his Country in the United States Army from 1958 until his discharge from the Army Reserves in 1964. He was united in marriage to Janet DeWitt on May 26, 1976, in Cedar Rapids. Tom worked for Rapids Chevrolet for many years in the parts department. Coming from a family of car guys, Tom truly loved his job! Tom was known for his wonderful sense of humor. He was a member of the Keystone Turners.

He is survived by his wife Janet; stepson, Brad (Tamra) Lang of Cedar Rapids; 2 grandchildren, Carson Lang of Iowa City, and Scarlett Lang of Cedar Rapids; and his sister, Sharron Schallau of Keystone.

Tom was preceded in death by his parents, Leonard and Ella.
