Lawrence “Larry” Lee Kula, 83, of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, passed away on Thursday, Dec. 21, 2023, at his home. The family will greet friends from 4 to 6 p.m. on Tuesday, Dec.. 26, 2023, at Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Service in Marion, Iowa. A Funeral Mass will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, Dec. 27, 2023, at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Marion, Iowa. Burial will follow at Holy Cross Cemetery in Anamosa, Iowa.

Larry was born on Jan. 3, 1940, in Monticello, Iowa, to Ernest and Margaret (Hayes) Kula. Following his mother’s passing, he was raised by his beloved mother, Marian (Schwitzer) Kula. He was a 1957 graduate of Anamosa High School and went on to serve honorably in the United States Army as a paratrooper and then was transferred to serve in Germany. On June 15, 1963, Larry was united in marriage to Marlys Jean Finn in Anamosa, Iowa. He worked for “The Telephone Company” until his retirement. He was a member of the Wapsipinicon Country Club, The Pioneers, Knights of Columbus, and St. Joseph Catholic Church. His grandkids were the light of his life. Larry will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.

Larry is survived and lovingly remembered by his wife of 60 years, Marlys Kula of Cedar Rapids; daughter, Linda (Tom) Parman and their children, Ben (Mackenzie) Parman of Tempe, Ariz., Kelsey Parman of Iowa City, Iowa, and Hailey Sojka of Cedar Rapids; son, Jeff (Andi) Kula and their children, Emily, Bill, and Christy Kula, all of Cedar Rapids; three siblings, Tim (Ansara) Kula, Becky (Buzz) Shannon, and Karla Kula; three sisters-in-law, Mary Jo (Dan) Messerli, Michele Ford, and Maureen Finn; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; parents-in-law; and sister and brother-in-law, Pam and Steve Seehusen.
