Laura Lee Thumma, 97, of Stanwood, passed away on Sunday, Aug. 7, 2022, at Cedar Manor Nursing Home in Tipton. A memorial service celebrating Laura’s life will be held at a later date at the Stanwood Union Church. She will be buried next to her husband in the Stanwood Cemetery.
Laura was born July 27, 1925, in Bagley, Iowa, to Merle and Alice (Underwood) Hawley. She married Glenn Thumma on Aug. 13, 1944, and he passed away on April 26, 2001.
She is survived by her sons, Gregory (Carol) of Hot Springs, Ark., Gary (Sue) of Stanwood, Geoffrey (Marcia) of Lake Stevens, Wash., and Bruce (Lynn) of Sarasota, Fla.; nine grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; and brothers, Dale Hawley of Manhattan, Kan., and Charles (Karen) Hawley of Penora, Iowa.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; siblings, Wayne, Irene, Ruth, Wilma and Linda; and grandson, Jeff Thumma.
Laura was a member of the Stanwood Union Church where she had taught Sunday school and was a bible school teacher. She was a 50-year member of the Federated Women’s Club (Laitians), was a past member of the Stanwood Library Board, owned Lee’s Ceramic Shop for 35 years, and also was a Cub Scouts Den leader.
Laura was an avid reader, crossword puzzle enthusiast, enjoyed crocheting and also working with all the kids.
