Kermit E. Postier, of Marion, Iowa, passed away on Friday, October 18, 2024, at the age of 91. He was born on January 1, 1933, in Inman, Kansas, where he spent his early years working on his family’s wheat farm. At the age of 18, Kermit joined the U.S. National Guard before transitioning to the U.S. Army, where he served as a cook for a medical unit stationed in Germany during the Korean War.

Following his military service, Kermit moved to Colorado and began a career in drywall, a trade that would define much of his working life. In 1963, he and his wife Rosann relocated to Marion, Iowa, where they later founded Kermit E. Postier Drywall. Kermit quickly established himself as the leading drywall contractor in the Cedar Rapids area, earning a reputation for his artistry and precision in the trade.

When the housing market took a downturn in the 1980s, Kermit and Rosann decided to sell their business. Kermit then transitioned to a new role in maintenance at Kirkwood Community College, where he quickly rose through the ranks to management. In 1987, he accepted a position as Director of Physical Plant at Coe College, where he worked until his well-deserved retirement.

In 1976, Rosann was diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis, and together, the couple faced the challenges of the disease head-on. Kermit dedicated himself to her care, constantly seeking new treatments and ways to improve her quality of life. After a courageous battle, Rosann passed away in 2003, and while their time together was cut short, their love remained a lasting legacy.

Kermit was known for his great sense of humor and his ability to make friends wherever he went. He deeply cared for others and was always willing to lend a helping hand to those in need. In his later years, Kermit resided at Summit Pointe Senior Living Community, where he formed many close friendships and continued to brighten the lives of those around him. His family would like to express their heartfelt thanks to the residents and staff at Summit Pointe for making his final days full of happiness, as well as the compassionate care teams at St. Luke’s Hospice Center, Linn Manor Care, and St. Croix Hospice for providing him comfort in his final days.

Kermit was preceded in death by his parents, his brothers Floyd, Norman, and Keith, his sister Vernalee, and his beloved wife Rosann. He is survived by his loving children: daughters Debbe Doyle, Mindy Hutchinson, Annette Shryer, Janelle Miller, Suzanne Edwards, and Stacy Cannoy; sons Rick Long, Roger Long, and David Long; and stepdaughter Robin Albers. He is also survived by many nieces, nephews, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. His memory will live on in the hearts of his family, friends, and all those whose lives he touched.

A visitation will be held on Thursday, October 24th, 2024, from 4:00-6:00 P. M. at Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home.

Kermit’s life was one marked by dedication, hard work, and love for those around him. He will be dearly missed.
