Kenneth Wayne DeVoe
Mr. Kenneth Wayne DeVoe, age 74 of Sandwich, IL passed away on Wednesday, January 20, 2021 at Arden Courts of Geneva in Geneva, IL. He was born on December 12, 1946 at Rockford Memorial Hospital, Rockford, IL, son of George R. & Myrtle (Marsden) DeVoe.
Ken was united in marriage on June 22, 1969 to Janet S. Workman & they spent the next 51 years happily together. He received his bachelor’s degree in education from Eastern Illinois University in Charleston, IL. He was a Biology teacher for 34 years at Newark High School, retiring in 2002. He coached JV basketball, was an active participant in planning proms, scholarship events & an active member of IEA/NEA. Ken enjoyed golfing, hunting, riding horses, fishing & carpentry. He was a member of several organizations including the Bremer Sanctuary in Hillsboro, IL, the NRA, the Carlinville Rifle & Pistol Club and both the Illinois & Kane County Audubon Societies. Ken enjoyed taking bird & flower walks in various parks. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother and uncle who will be deeply missed by his family & many, many friends.
Ken is survived by his wife, Janet DeVoe of Sandwich, IL; his daughter Tracy (Kevin) Anderson of Sheridan, IL; his grandson, Zackary Anderson; his siblings, Bruce DeVoe of Byron, IL, Sharon (Norv) Hartley of CA, Beverly (Tom) Williams of Winnebago, IL & Laura (Rick) Herter of Belvidere, IL; also, many nieces & nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, George & Myrtle DeVoe.
A Memorial Service will be held at 3 pm on Saturday, January 23, 2021 at the Nelson Funeral Home & Crematory, 1275 Countyline Rd, Sandwich, IL. Interment will take place at a later time in the Oak Mound Cemetery, Somonauk, IL.
Friends may visit from 1 pm until the Hour of Service on Saturday, January 23, 2021 at the Nelson Funeral Home in Sandwich, IL.
