Kenneth “Kenny” George Goodell, 81, of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, died Wednesday, April 12, 2023, at the Dennis & Donna Oldorf Hospice House of Mercy in Hiawatha, Iowa. A visitation will take place from 4 to 7 p.m. Sunday, April 16, at St. Patrick Catholic Church in Cedar Rapids, with a rosary to begin at 3:30 p.m. Funeral Mass will be held at 10 a.m. Monday, April 17, at the church, with a visitation one hour prior. Burial will immediately follow at St. Joseph Cemetery in Cedar Rapids. Murdoch-Linwood Funeral Home & Cremation Service in Cedar Rapids is assisting the family.

Kenny was born Sept. 29, 1941, in Cedar Rapids, the son of George Raymond and Dorothy “Mae” (Hayes) Goodell. He attended Roosevelt High School. Kenny was united in marriage to Mary Carole Travis on Feb. 9, 1961, at St. Patrick Catholic Church in Cedar Rapids. He owned and operated Goodell’s Construction. Kenny was a member of the Knights of Columbus 909 and a very active member of St. Patrick Catholic Church.

Survivors include his wife of 62 years, Mary Goodell of Cedar Rapids; children, Dan (Pam) Goodell of Shellsburg, Iowa, DeDe (Pat) Huebner of Windsor, Colo., Deb (Dave) Berns of Atkins, Iowa, Denise (Jim) Kenney of Scottsdale, Ariz., and David (Jessie) Goodell of Atkins, Iowa; 11 grandchildren, Candice, Tim, David, Alison, Abigail, Murphy, Emily, Bailey, Reilly, Harrison and Lucie; great-grandchildren; aunt, Virginia Sayers of Phelan, Calif.; sisters-in-law, Joyce Goodell, Renee Reilly and Margie O’Connell; and many nieces and nephews.

Kenny was preceded in death by his parents, George and Mae Goodell; brothers, Gene and Bill Goodell; sisters, Barb Mease and Mary Ronnenberg; and brothers-in-law, Cyril Reilly and Mike O’Connell.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to St. Patrick Catholic Church or the Dennis & Donna Oldorf Hospice House of Mercy.
