Kenneth Hanson, 79, of Washington, Iowa, passed away Sunday, Sept. 25, 2022, at the University of Iowa Hospital after a brief illness.

Celebration of Life services will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 4, at the Washington (Iowa) United Methodist Church. Calling hours will begin at noon Monday, Oct. 3, at the Jones & Eden Funeral Home, where the family will receive friends from 4 to 7 p.m. Interment will be held at Elm Grove Cemetery. Memorials have been established for the Washington County Hospital Foundation, the YMCA of Washington County and the Washington Area Performing Arts and Events Center. Ken was born Nov. 29, 1942, in St. Louis, Mo., the son of Allan and Florence (Steckel) Hanson. Ken graduated from Washington Senior High School in Washington, Iowa, and Iowa Wesleyan College in Mount Pleasant, Iowa. Ken was united in marriage to Rosemary Theobald on Sept. 24, 1966, in Oconomowoc, Wis.

Ken owned and operated Iowa Bridge & Culvert, formerly Hanson Concrete, and was a Hall of Fame inductee for the Associated General Contractors of Iowa. He loved Washington, Iowa, and worked boundlessly for its betterment. Ken loved the Iowa Hawkeyes, the St. Louis Cardinals, a strong Manhattan, and wintering in Sanibel Island, Fla., with his wife Rosemary.

He is survived by son, Eric Hanson and wife, Shannon of Cedar Rapids, Iowa; son, Greg Hanson and wife, Maria of North Liberty, Iowa; son, Nicholas Hanson and wife, Genevieve of Falls Church, Va.; four grandchildren, Elizabeth Rose, Peter, Julian and Kirin Hanson; and his nieces and nephews.

Ken was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Rosemary; brother, Don Hanson; and sister-in-law, Julie Hanson.
