Katrina Sudan

Katrina Sudan

On July 7, 2023 Katrina Sudan passed away. Katrina was born November 7, 1926, and graced our lives for a wonderful 96 years. Katrina was born in Cleveland, Ohio and this was her home for her entire life. She married James Roy and gave birth to her only child, Anthony Roy.

She is survived by her son, daughter-in-law, Arnetress Roy, grandchildren, Yolanda D. Ware and Anthony M. Roy, great-grandchildren Jonathan D. Ware and Alexander J. Roy. As well as many nieces, nephews, and great-nieces and nephews.

Preceding Katrina in death were her mother, Vona Singleton, Father, Samuel Singleton, brothers, John Singleton, and-Richad Singleton and Aumad Hakim. Her sisters who also preceded her in death were Reva Albright, Mary Mc Adams, and LaVonne Pasha.

Katrina was born Willa Mae Singleton. After her divorce, she continued the task of raising her young son and took on various jobs to support herself and her son. For years she worked at “Lampels”, a clothing manufacturer, until the factory closed and moved south. She was a hard worker, and had to be, because this job was based on piece work. Yet, no matter how tired she was, she always had time to care for and raise her son.

Later, she took jobs at restaurants and had cafeteria duties at Kirk Middle School. She would do all this while still taking time to care for and raise other family members’ kids for periods of time. Hard work never scared Katrina; she was a force of nature.

In the year of 1958, Katrina joined the Nation of Islam. Years later she legally changed her name to Katrina Sudan. She was a faithful and dedicated Muslim all her life. Until her health began to wane, she was always there to help. She was known for her participation in all Temple functions.

Katrina was especially helpful with dinners and bake sales. She lived her entire life based on dignity and love for others. She has now finished her journey and everyone she encountered is better for it.

R.I.P. Katrina
