Karen Lee Soteco, 75 of Marion died Saturday, November 5, 2022 at St. Luke’s Helen G. Nassif Transitional Care Center in Cedar Rapids. Services: 10 a.m. Friday at All Saints Catholic Church by Rev. John Flaherty. Burial: St. John’s Cemetery. Friends may visit with the family on Friday at the church from 9 to 9:45 a.m. Teahen Funeral Home is serving the family.

Karen is survived by her daughter Erin Soteco; son Brian (Esther) Soteco; sister Diane (Richard) Rezek; brother Michael (Nancy) Mulherin; five grandchildren Caitlyn Troendle, Evan (Samantha) Troendle, Kiera Soteco, Amaris Murillo Mena, and Sydnee Soteco; beloved pets Little Kitty and McGee; and numerous cousins, nieces, and nephews.

Karen was preceded in death by her parents Harold and Shirley and niece Krisi Roby.

Karen was born on March 3, 1947 in Cedar Rapids, the daughter of Harold and Shirley Zemanek Mulherin. She graduated from Regis High School in 1965. After Regis, she graduated from Coe College and Thunderbird College in Phoenix where she received her Master’s Degree. Through the years, Karen has worked as a social worker, insurance broker and dental hygienist. Her most recent job was as the Director of Economic Development in Muscatine, where she worked until her retirement in 2010.

Karen was a woman of many talents and passions. She enjoyed attending book club and reading as much as she could and recently had just started taking guitar lessons. Karen loved to go to the movies with friends, playing games with her grandchildren, and spending time with friends and family.
