Karen Diane Hicks

Karen Diane Hicks, 69, passed away on September 12, 2021, at Blue Ridge Health and Rehab after a long battle with MS.  She was the daughter of the late Fred and Hortense Hicks.

A lifelong native of Nash County, she served her community through education.  She received her degree in Education from Wesleyan College and later pursued and received a Masters Degree in Adult Education. She was a pioneer in distance education and led the way for developing the online programs at the local community college.  Those who knew her knew her passion for education and furthering opportunities for education in this area.  

She was a devoted parent who was most happy when she was able to spend time with her children. She was a fiercely loyal friend who always enjoyed having friends close by. She was also passionate about her pets and often took in animals that needed a home.  She loved each of her pets as though they were family.  Her devotion to her children and friends was one of her biggest strengths, and she will be missed them all.

She is survived by her son, Jason D. Hicks, and her daughter, Leila D. Merrell.

Jason Hicks and Deanna Merrell welcome friends and family to join them in celebrating her life at __ pm, Saturday ___ at Sunset Park in Rocky Mount, NC. This will be a casual gathering of friends and family to celebrate her life.
