Judy Collingwood

Judith (“Judy”) (Grover) Collingwood (82), formerly of Palatine, IL, passed away peacefully on December 21, 2020, at Alexian Brothers Medical Center in Elk Grove Village, IL, due to complications from Covid-19. She had previously been confined to a nursing home in Schaumburg, IL, for 13 years due to various medical afflictions.

 

Judy is lovingly remembered by her husband of 57 years, Larry R. Collingwood, now of Bolingbrook, IL; children Wendy (John) Schuman, and Bradley (Denise), Robert (Suzanne) and Daniel (fiancée, Laurie Gasior) Collingwood; grandchildren Justin (Ashley) Schuman, Cara (Michael) Coleman, and Cody (girlfriend, Mikayla May), Olivia (boyfriend, Mario Pagos), Cameron, Hannah, Lauren and Madison Collingwood; sister Linda Grover; and nieces Jennifer Reece and Bonnie (Ashlon) Hill and their families; as well as many friends whom she loved dearly.

 

Judy graduated from Evanston High School in Evanston, IL, in 1956, and from Brigham Young University in 1960, where she enjoyed several musical activities and she sang soprano in the Madrigal group. Thereafter her career took her to various school districts, including Los Angeles, CA, and Evanston, IL, as an elementary school teacher. Judy also taught piano lessons, tutored and tended children in her home and later in life she worked as an administrative assistant and a private nanny.

 

As a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, she was involved in the music program, leading and singing in local church choirs and she taught church classes at various age groups and levels. She and Larry served a one-year mission in Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada, in 1999.

 

Judy is preceded in death by her parents, Dr. Floyd and Ruth Grover of Evanston, IL; and granddaughter, Sydney Collingwood.

 

Burial arrangements will be private, with a memorial service to be scheduled for a future date.
