Judith “Judy” Maxine (Yarger) Hull, 88, of Marion, Iowa, passed away on Tuesday, June 25, 2024, at the Dennis and Donna Oldorf Hospice House of Mercy in Hiawatha, Iowa. The family will greet friends from 4 – 7 p.m. on Friday, August 9, 2024, at Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Service in Marion. A Memorial Service will take place at 2 p.m. on Saturday, August 10, 2024, at the Marion Christian Church, with an additional one-hour visitation beginning at 1 p.m. at the church. Inurnment will be held at 2 p.m. on Sunday, August 11, 2024, at Cedar Cemetery near Lytton, Iowa. Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Service is assisting the family. Judy was born on March 21, 1936, in Omaha, Nebraska, the daughter of Glen and Lillian (Logsdon) Yarger, and grew up in Greenfield, Osage, and Waverly, Iowa. She was a 1954 graduate of Waverly High School and went on to earn her bachelor’s degree from Iowa State University in 1958. On December 21, 1961, Judy was united in marriage to George Polley in Berkley, California. Together they had four children, Malcolm, Michael, Jonathan, and Erika. Judy taught middle school and high school in Minnesota, Illinois, and California. In 1972, she earned her master’s degree from Mankato State College in Minnesota and became the high school guidance counselor in Wall Lake, Iowa, until retiring in 1987. She was an adjunct instructor in sociology for Iowa Central Community College from 1987 until 1994 and an adjunct professor in history for Buena Vista University in 1988.

In 1975 she married Dr. Ray Hull in Wall Lake, Iowa, and they moved to Marion in 1994. Judy was an active participant in the communities in which she lived. In Marion, she was a member of the Marion Christian Church, P.E.O., and the Marion Historic Preservation Commission. She loved Marion and compiled numerous books on its history, sharing the information on tours and presentations. Judy will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.

Judy is survived and lovingly remembered by her four children, Malcolm (Cheryl) Polley of Indiana, Pennsylvania, Michael Polley of Wapello, Iowa, Jonathan Polley (Becki Amborn) of Marion, and Erika Lancaster of Ridgecrest, California; stepchildren, Mary Ann (Don) Nelson of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, and David (Elizabeth) Hull of Edmond, Oklahoma; ten grandchildren; five step grandchildren; two brothers, Douglas (Sharon) Yarger of Tucson, Arizona, and James (Jean) Yarger of Portland, Oregon; four sisters, Jacqueline Smith of Ft. Worth, Texas, Jo Ann Dulany of Glendale, Arizona, Christine (Richard) Toft of Eyota, Minnesota, and Jocelyn (Marcus) Haley of Ft. Worth; sister-in-law, Janet Yarger of St. Charles, Illinois; and a host of extended family members including nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Ray Hull; stepson, Bradley Hull; brother, Rodney Yarger; brother-in-law, Tom Dulany; and son-in-law, Curt Lancaster.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials go to Marion Christian Church or the Marion Historical Society.
