Juanita Mae Krueger Jones

Juanita Mae Krueger Jones, 92, a lifelong resident of Springfield, passed away on May 4, 2022 at Concordia Village. She was born on October 12, 1929, to Edwin and Mae Schmidt Krueger. She married Hamilton I. Jones in 1951 in Springfield.
Juanita (Nita as she preferred) attended Trinity Lutheran School and graduated from Springfield High School in 1948. She attended MacMurray College where she was a member of the Mac Mounties Equestrian Team and a mid-year 1950 graduate with a Bachelor of Science degree in physical education. She later attended Sangamon State University, earning a Masters’ Degree in Counseling in 1978. She initially taught in the Ball Chatham School District and in 1953, began her 32-year teaching career at Springfield High School. While at SHS, she served as the cheerleading sponsor, field hockey coach, and Women’s P.E. Department Chair.
Juanita was a lifelong member of Trinity Lutheran Church, and a former member of Questers, Springfield Art Association, Springfield Ceramics & Crafts, and Springfield Civic Garden Club. She was also an accomplished bridge player, a skilled gardener, and an avid reader. She and Hamilton enjoyed traveling, and she especially loved spending time with her family in Naples, Florida and her summer trips to Pentwater, Michigan. Nita was a devoted wife and a wonderful mother.
She was preceded in death by her parents and daughter, Sherrie Louise Hylton.
She will be greatly missed by her husband of 71 years, Hamilton Jones; her daughter, Deborah, and her husband, Robert E. Sidener, Jr.; son-in-law, Matthew L. Hylton; four grandchildren, Robert, Kellie, Christopher, Lucy, and five great-grandchildren.
Juanita’s family would like to thank Cathy Jewell-Williams and the devoted staff at Concordia Village for their loving care.
Private family services were held with Rev. Dr. Thomas G. Radtke officiating, followed by burial at Waverly East Cemetery in Morgan County.
