Joseph “Joe” S. Spivey

Joseph “Joe” S. Spivey, 81, of Petersburg, passed away on Sunday, December 19, 2021 at Sunny Acres Nursing Home. He was born September 24, 1940, in Loris, South Carolina, the son of Joseph B. and Flossie Mae Johnson Spivey and they preceded him in death. He married Lois Thomson on April 25, 1967 and she survives.

Also surviving are daughter, Rachel (Michael) Lombardo of Wildwood, MO; son, Joseph G. (fiancée: Dana) Spivey of Greenview, IL; two grandchildren, Joseph K. Spivey and Samantha Lombardo; and half-sister, Patricia Hunter of North Carolina.

Joe earned his bachelor’s degree at MacMurray College. He was the President of the Illinois Coal Association. He was very involved in Crime Stoppers, where he served as president. Joe served in the U.S. Marine Corps for 7 years. He served as Marine security for Charles de Gaulle during President Kennedy’s funeral. He was an Admiral’s Aide on the USS Midway. Joe also served as security at the embassy in Honduras, where he met the love of his life, Lois.

Cremation has been accorded by Staab Funeral Home – Springfield.
