Joseph Edward Sladek passed away unexpectedly on Oct. 20, 2022, while spending time with his family.
A drop-in gathering to celebrate Joseph’s life will be held on Tuesday, Oct. 25, at The Kirkwood Room, 515 Kirkwood Ave., Iowa City, from 3 to 6 p.m. There will be a private family graveside committal at St. Joseph’s Cemetery in Iowa City. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Joseph Sladek Memorial Fund.
Joseph Edward Sladek was born to Frances (Duttlinger) and Joesph Sladek on Oct. 27, 1939, in Iowa City, Iowa. He lived his entire life on the farm southeast of Iowa City. He graduated from Iowa City High School in Iowa City in 1958.
Joe married Nancy Stutzman on Sept. 12, 1959. They had three children, Julie, Joe, and Steve.
Joe was a farmer. He was born in and lived in the same home for nearly 83 years.
Joe greatly enjoyed playing cards with his friends, watching sports and spending time with his family.
Joe contributed to his community. He was a member of the Cattlemen’s Association and sat on the Johnson County Fair Board.
Joe is survived by his wife, Nancy; daughter, Julie (Doug) Harrigan; son, Joe (Jeannie) Sladek II; daughter-in-law, Sherry Sladek; grandchildren, Morgan (Will) Rhea and Grant (Hannah) Sladek, Kelsi (Nick) Hartle, Haley (Alex) Phelan, Ashley (Cisco) Echevarria, Sydney, Kallie and Joey Sladek; great-grandchildren, Emerson, James, Steven, Eleanor and Audrina; and his sister, Joan Haman.
Joe was preceded in death by his parents; his sister, Doris Mae Roberts; and his son, Steven Sladek.
