John P. Langford

John P. Langford, 85, of Springfield, passed away on Thursday, March 23, 2023 at Springfield Memorial Hospital. He was born on August 13, 1937 in Jefferson City, MO, the son of Harold A. and Lucille K. (Prussing) Langford. He married Bernadine M. Murphy on December 1, 1962 and she preceded him in death on October 13, 2014.
He was also preceded in death by his parents; son, Sam Langford; and son-in-law, Al Shores.
He is survived by three daughters, Deena (Bill) Smith, Patti (Greg) Blisset, and Bobbi Langford, all of Springfield; six grandchildren, Andrea Langford, Chris (Heidi) Langford, Ashlie (Danny) Midiri, Rachelle (Joey) Maurer, Jesse Cottrill, and Daylan Shores; 5 great-grandchildren, Colby, Brynlee, Leena, Jude, and Hayleigh; siblings, Robin (Bill) Wyatte of MO and Mark (Sarah) Langford of FL; daughter-in-law, Patti Langford of TX; and many nieces and nephews.
John lived in Springfield for most of his life and worked for the State of IL in the Department of Corrections for 32 years and retired as a Management Operations Analyst. He was also a United States Army Veteran serving from 1962 – 1966.
John was a member of West Side Christian Church. He enjoyed fishing on Truman Lake in MO and was an avid St. Louis Cardinal’s fan. His favorite pastime was being there for his grandchildren in any way he could.
Visitation: 10 – 11 am, Tuesday, March 28, 2023 at Staab Funeral Home – Springfield.
Funeral Service: 11 am, Tuesday, March 28, 2023 at Staab Funeral Home – Springfield with Cindy Lash officiating. Burial will follow at Oak Ridge Cemetery with military honors being conducted.
Memorial Contributions may be made to the Land of Lincoln Honor Flight.
