John McCord, 58, of Cedar Rapids, passed away on Friday, Oct. 7, 2022, at Mercy Medical Center in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. Visitation will be held from 3 to 6 p.m. Monday, Oct. 10, at Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Service of Marion. Graveside service will begin at 1 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 11, at Mount Calvary Cemetery in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. The family requests casual attire at all events.
John was born on Oct. 24, 1963, in Cedar Rapids, the son of Waylon and Gloria (Arthur) McCord. He was a 1982 graduate of Anamosa High School. On June 29, 1985, John was united in marriage to Amy McCune in Cedar Rapids. He worked route sales for Dale Lee Distributing, Wonder bread and Kuba Distribution. In his earlier years John was an avid bowler and loved cars. He found a passion for yard work, gardening and feeding the birds. John was a friend of Bill W. for many years. His caring heart will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.
John is survived and lovingly remembered by his wife of 37 years, Amy; sister, Sharon Schanbacher of Cedar Rapids; brother, Douglas McCord of Orlando, Floa.; sisters-in-law, Amy’s twin sister, Beth McCune , Mary Anne McCune and Lezlie Havlik, all of Cedar Rapids; and nieces and nephews, Angela (Lonnie) Klein of Palo, Iowa, Bonnie Seely of Cedar Rapids, Joanna Schanbacher of Cedar Rapids, Todd Schanbacher of Madison, Wis., Kim Stark of California, Matthew McCord of Iowa City, Iowa, and Leah (Jimmy) Nobling of Orlando.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Waylon McCord Jr., and Glen McCord; and nephew, Jeffery McCord.
A memorial fund in John’s name has been established.
