John Edward Wilder, 68, of Shellsburg, died Saturday, Oct. 1, 2022, at his home. Services: 1 p.m. Friday at Teahen Funeral Home by Pastor Matt Magee. Friends may visit with the family on Friday from 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at Teahen Funeral Home.
John is survived by his children Jackie (Nate) Williams of Cedar Rapids, Julie (Jesse) Steffensen and John (Amanda) Wilder, both of Arlington, S.D.; five grandchildren, Olivia and Alex Williams, Madisen, Aiden, Tristen Steffensen; and partner Ashley Dvorak of Shellsburg.
John was preceded in death by his parents, Jack and Margaret Wilder; and sister, Joyce Burkhart.
John was born on Sept. 1, 1954, the son of John “Jack” and Margaret Haskins Wilder in Cedar Rapids. John graduated from Alburnett High School in 1972 and went on to work for Nash Finch where he met his future wife of 38 years, Corinne Nofal. They were married in 1978 and raised a family on an acreage outside Shellsburg. John also worked as a regional manager for Iowa Glass and as a hobby farmer.
John liked to work on saddles and operated his own saddle business. He enjoyed gardening, going to auctions, fishing, farming, taking care of his animals, camping and watching Westerns. He also enjoyed spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren.
