John E. “Hubba” Knecht

John E. “Hubba” Knecht, 78, of Dennison, passed away Monday, December 20, 2021 in Union Hospital at Dover following a period of declining health.
A son of the late Russell and Ida Mae (Gardner) Knecht, John was born September 19, 1943 at Zoar, Ohio.
John was an avid bowler and he participated in various leagues at Boulevard Lanes and was also a member of the Dennison Eagles. He also enjoyed fishing and watching the Cleveland Indians. Most of all John cherished spending time with his grandchildren whom affectionately called him “Papaw”.
He is survived by his children, Dennis (Kathy) Knecht, Brian (Barbara) Knecht, Michelle (Jody) May, Glenn (Mickey) Moore and John Moore; 16 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; his siblings, Bill (Ruth) Knecht, Bonnie Anderson and JoAnn (David) Schaar; a sister-in-law, Mary Ann Knecht; numerous nieces and nephews and special friends, Danny and Ida Pope.
John was preceded in death by his parents; his step-mother, Hannah Von Allmen; his wife, JoAnn (Hunter) Knecht; a daughter, Amy Moore and siblings, Betty Pope and her husband, Richard, Jim Knecht and an infant sister, Frances Kay Knecht.
In keeping with John’s wishes, cremation will take place through the care of the Linn-Hert-Geib Funeral Home & Crematory at New Philadelphia. A memorial service celebrating his life will be held on Saturday, January 15, 2022 at 2 p.m. in NewPointe Community Church at Dover. Following the service, the family will greet guests during a time of fellowship in the church.
