John B. Voorhees

John B. Voorhees, 86, of Springfield, passed away on Sunday, June 5, 2022 at his home. He was born on October 11, 1935, in Fairview, to James and Bertha (Groom) Voorhees. He married Carol J. Smith on June 1, 1957 and she survives.
Also surviving are two sons, Bruce (Cathy) Voorhees of Springfield and Kevin (Jennifer) Voorhees of Pleasant Plains; two grandchildren Stephanie Jewett and Kevin Alec (Mary) Voorhees; four great-grandchildren, LeBron, Alyvia, Coleman and Zayden; two sisters, Martha (Frank) Schou of Spaulding and Susan (Al) Zick of Barrington Hills; one brother, Bruce (Maxine) Voorhees of Springfield; and a few nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
John was proud of his 48 year career as a cartographer for the IL Department of Transportation.
John was a member of Church of the Little Flower. He was a United States Army veteran. He was a youth coach and administrator, having coached baseball and hockey. He was a member of the Greater Springfield Bowling Hall of Fame and served as a Boy Scout Leader.
Memorial Gathering: 11 am – 12:30 pm, Friday, June 10, 2022 at Church of the Little Flower.
Memorial Mass: 12:30 pm, Friday, June 10, 2022 at Church of the Little Flower with Reverend Allen Kemme officiating. Inurnment will follow at Calvary Cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be made to Church of the Little Flower.
