John A. Downey, 72, passed away peacefully on April 17, 2021. Beloved husband of Susan (nee Esposito) for 54 beautiful years. Loving father to Lisa Marie Fowler, Catherine (Kevin) Kelly, and Jackie (Brian) Haug. Proud grandpa to Michael, Austin, Sienna, Griffin, Evan, and Adam. Cherished brother of Joseph (late Patricia) Downey and the late Catherine (late Dennis) Willis, the late Jeremiah (late Jean) Downey, and the late Richard Downey. Beloved son of the late Richard and the late Catherine Downey and son-in-law of the late Mary and Enrico Doria. Caring brother-in-law to Kathleen Santucci. John was a loving uncle to many nieces and nephews. He will always be remembered as the character in the room and an excellent storyteller, while also making everyone feel welcome. John grew up in Brooklyn, New York where he met and married Susan, his high school sweetheart. They moved together to Chicago in the 1970s, where John continued his vibrant and lifelong career as a trader on the Chicago Board Options Exchange. He loved spending time with his family on the boat at his summer home in Green Lake, Wisconsin and playing with his loyal dog, Hank. He will be missed by many friends of Bill W. and all of his family and friends. He will be remembered for his generosity of spirit and fun-loving attitude. A visitation will be held on Wednesday, April 21,2021 from 3-7pm at Smith-Corcoran Funeral Home, 1104 Waukegan Rd, Glenview IL 60025. A Mass of the Resurrection will be held on Thursday, April 22, 2021 at 10:00am at St. Athanasius Catholic Church, 1615 Lincoln St, Evanston, IL 60201.
