Joanne Hopson, 87, of Marion, Iowa, passed away peacefully on Monday, April 10, 2023, at her home. In agreement with her wishes, cremation has taken place. Visitation will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday, April 21, at Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Service in Marion. A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, April 22, at CrossLife Community Church, located at 5555 Mount Vernon Rd. SE, in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, where an additional visitation will be held one hour prior to the service. A live stream of the service will be available at www.facebook.com/CrossLifecr. A private committal service will be held.
Joanne was born on May 19, 1935, in George, Iowa, the daughter of Archie and Gretchen (Feldmann) Reemtsma. On Oct. 18, 1953, Joanne was united in marriage to Calvin Russell Hopson in Sioux Falls, S.D. For 25 years, Joanne worked as a secretary for State Farm Insurance in Marion. She was a member of CrossLife Community Church in Cedar Rapids. Joanne loved her family and she loved her Jesus. She will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.
Joanne is survived and lovingly remembered by her daughters, Candyce (Patrick) Lambert of Eden Prairie, Minn., and Peggy (Jeff) Sheetz of Cedar Rapids, Iowa; four grandchildren, Keith Lambert, Kerry (Paul) Hill, Benjamin Sheetz and Joseph Sheetz; one great-grandson, Noah Hill; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Calvin Hopson; her parents; and two sisters, Arlis Nielson and Irene Stocker.
