Joanne Cecelia (Griffin) Glynn, age 91, of Cedar Rapids passed away July 29, peacefully at her home surrounded by her family.

The visitation will be held Wednesday, July 31, 2024, from 4 pm to 7 pm at Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home in Cedar Rapids. Funeral services will be held at 10 am, August 1, at St. Jude’s Catholic Church. Burial will be at Mt. Calvary Cemetery, with a luncheon to follow.

Joanne was born August 7, 1932, in Cedar Rapids, IA to John and Cecelia (Kelly) Griffin. She Graduated from St. Patrick’s School in 1950 and worked for several years at the Telephone Company. On January 3,1955 she married the love of her life, James J. Glynn, whom she met when she was 10 years old, and they were married for 64 years.

She was a founding member of St. Jude’s parish and served on the building committee for the new church. She was also active in the Sweet Corn Festival, the Choir, Pastoral Counsel and Ladies Circle. A longtime member of SAPADAPSO, she served as the membership chair for many years. She was a member of the Moose Lodge and the Catholic order of Foresters.

She is survived by her 9 children: James/Sparky (Laura), Brian (Terri), Eileen Crowley-Parman (Matt), Maureen Smalley (Gary), Kayleen Schwartzenburg (Irvin), Christeen Faille (Steven), Kelly (Krista), Michael (Molly) and Joleen Hinkel (Trevor). She is also survived by many loving in-laws, nieces, and nephews.

Joanne’s Irish heritage meant everything to her and in 2009, with the help of her family, she obtained her Irish Citizenship. Joanne’s greatest joy was being a mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. Jim and Joanne’s legacy of love and commitment has grown their family to 115. They are best known as “The Glynn Gang.” Slainte.

The family would like to thank the staff of Bickford of Marion and St. Croix Hospice for their loving care. Memorials may be directed to the family who will donate to various Catholic charities.
