Joan M. Walter
- June 8, 2022
Joan M. Walter, 89, of New Philadelphia, passed away on Monday, June 6, 2022 in Amberwood Manor at New Philadelphia and reunited with her late husband and love of her life, James Metcalf.
Born in Dover she was the daughter of the late John T. Meese and Marie M. (Schupauch) Meese Perko and had retired from the Nut House Saloon at Canton where she worked as a cook. Joan loved playing cards but her favorite game was Gin Rummy and games would sometimes take hours to play. She also loved camping, fishing and boating with her family. Her family and friends would often request that she make her “famous fudge” and eagerly anticipated her Christmas cookies each year.
She is survived by her five children, James (Paula) Metcalf of Port Washington, Scherry (Michael) Yapko of Canton, Susan Metcalf of Dover, Janice (James) Turnbaugh of Melbourne, Florida and Terry (companion Kandy Bichsel) Metcalf of Dover; two sisters, Beverly Luff of New Philadelphia and Shirley Herron of Dover; a brother, Allen Perko of Chattanooga, Tennessee and numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great grandchildren.
Visitation will be held on Sunday, June 12, 2022 from 1 to 2 PM in the Linn-Hert-Geib Funeral Home at New Philadelphia where a funeral service, celebrating Joan’s life, will begin at 2 PM with Pastor Terry Wilcox officiating.
The family requests that memorial contributions be directed to Community Hospice, 716 Commercial Avenue SW, New Philadelphia, Ohio 44663.
Those wishing to do so may send the family a personal condolence and light a candle in remembrance of Joan by visiting the funeral home’s website at www.GeibCares.com
