Jo Ellen Burris, age 72, of Dover, died Tuesday, November 1, 2022, in Park Village Health Care Center at Dover following a period of declining health.
Born in Union Hospital at Dover on February 16, 1950, Jo was a daughter of the late Russell J. and Dorothy L. Withers Young.
She was a 1968 graduate of Dover High School and on December 27, 1969, married the love of her life, Tim Burris. Together the couple raised two daughters.
Jo began working at a young age at the former Spiegel store in Dover and later was employed by Montgomery Ward and Moore’s Lumber. She later worked for Mary Zifer’s Pizza in New Philadelphia where she worked for more than a decade prior to her retirement.
In her younger years, Jo enjoyed league bowling and ceramics. For more than 50 years she traveled to countless venues to watched her husband and later her granddaughter play in various bands. Jo also enjoyed caring for her house plants and deeply loved her toy poodle, Willie.
In addition to her husband of 52 years, Jo will be missed by her children, Amy (Eric) Day of New Philadelphia and Michelle Dingey of Strasburg; a granddaughter, Samantha Day and numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, Jo was preceded in death by a sister, Rebecca Richesson; a brother, Russell G. Young, and a son-in-law, William Dingey.
The family will greet guests on Sunday, November 6, 2022, from 1-4 PM in the Geib Funeral Center at Dover where Pastor Brian Flood will lead a service beginning at 4PM. Burial will take place in the East Avenue Cemetery on Monday, November 7, 2022, at 10:00 AM.
