Jimmy Calvin “Jim” Kirklin
Marion
Jimmy Calvin “Jim” Kirklin, 69, of Marion, Iowa, passed away on Sunday, November 16, 2025.
Born in Cedar Rapids, Jim was the son of Mary Hensen Kirklin and Earl Calvin Kirklin of Joplin, Mo., both of whom preceded him in death. From a young age, Jim had a natural gift for working with heavy machinery. He owned and operated Kirklin Construction until his retirement in 2015, and he could run a backhoe, dozer, skid loader or any piece of big equipment better than anyone.
Jim loved wholeheartedly and lived life on his own terms. He was married to Roberta Michel Ward for 20 years, and for the past 25 years shared his life with Terri Vest Kirklin.
Family meant everything to Jim. He is survived by his children: Todd Washburn of Cedar Rapids, Jason (Betty) Kirklin of Robins, Iowa, Josh Kirklin of Cedar Rapids, and Deidre Wessels of Ohio, as well as Kiley Vest and Kelli Vest both of Cedar Rapids, whom he also proudly considered his own. Siblings: Judy (Butch) Anderson of Coal Valley, Ill., Linda Cordell of Andalusia, Ill., Virgina (George) James of Clio, Iowa, Patty (Oly-Craig) Stechcon of North Liberty, Rick (Cheryl) High of Cedar Rapids. He has 10 grandkids and 3 great-grandkids. Jim adored his grandchildren and always tried to be wherever he felt he was needed most.
He was known for his generosity, kindness, and willingness to help anyone who crossed his path. Jim would have given his last dollar to someone who needed it more. His heart for people, especially children and those in need, left a lasting impact on countless lives. Jim’s presence, strength, and humor will be deeply missed and never forgotten.
A Celebration of Life open house will be held Saturday, December 13, noon-4 p.m., at Robins City Hall, 265 2nd St., Robins, IA 52328.
Memorials can be directed to the family.
