JH Simmons

JH Simmons, 87, of Mansfield, passed away Tuesday, February 22, 2022.
He was born October 20, 1934, in Sandy Hook, Kentucky, to the late Clara (Stafford) and Taylor Simmons. JH was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force. Moving to the Mansfield area in the 1960s, he began his career at General Motors where he retired as a crane operator. He enjoyed fishing, gardening and woodworking but being in the company of his family was his favorite activity.
JH is survived by his wife of 62 years, Leah J. (Flannery) Simmons; three children, Mitch (Karen) Simmons, Evelyn (Dan) Heuberger and Anthony Simmons; fourteen grandchildren; twenty-five great-grandchildren; one great-great grandchild; a brother, Leo (Delma) Simmons; a sister, Ida (H.B.) Fannin; three sisters-in-law, Virginia Owens, Lois Turner and Rhonda Rhodes; and many nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Teresa Simmons; two brothers, Ernest and Clell Simmons; a sister, Vivian Brown; and his in-laws, Clayton and Bethel Flannery.
The family will receive friends from 1:00-2:00 p.m. Monday, February 28, 2022, at the Ontario Home of Wappner Funeral Directors, 100 S. Lexington-Springmill Road. The funeral service will follow at 2:00 p.m. He will be laid to rest in Mansfield Memorial Park. Memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association.
