Jessie Lee McCormack, 87, of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, passed away surrounded by his loving family on Saturday, Oct. 29, 2022, at the Dennis & Donna Oldorf Hospice House of Mercy in Hiawatha, Iowa. Family will greet friends and family from 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 3, at Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Service in Marion, Iowa, with a Masonic Service beginning at 6:45 p.m. A Funeral Mass will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday, Nov. 4, at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Marion, conducted by the Rev. David O’Connor. A livestream of the service may be accessed on the churches YouTube page at youtu.be/CqTTrQftLos. A private inurnment will be held at Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery in Cedar Rapids.

Jessie was born on Nov. 22, 1934, in Franklin, Ky., the son of Willie S. and Sarah E. (Huff) McCormack. He attended from Franklin High School. Jessie served in the Army National Guard for 12 years and retired as a Sergeant. On July 1, 1953, Jessie was united in marriage to Martha Ann McShane in Marion, Iowa. Jessie worked in maintenance for Wilson & Co., Farmstead Foods and USB Bank. He was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Marion, El Kahir Shrine and Masonic Lodge (Trojan 548). In his earlier years, Jessie enjoyed going camping with his family. He was a gambler who enjoyed playing Poker, going to horse races and playing Bingo weekly. Jessie was a coin collector and big Green Bay Packer fan. He also enjoyed going out to eat with friends and family. Jessie and Martha wintered in Texas since 1994. Jessie had a great sense of humor. He will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.

Jessie is survived and lovingly remembered by his wife of 69 years, Martha McCormack of Cedar Rapids; son, Mark (Laurie) McCormack of Atkins, Iowa; three daughters, Julie (Wayne) Anderson of Cedar Rapids, Linda (Robert) Mattes of Madison, Wis., and Brenda (Douglas) Martens of Toddville, Iowa; eight grandchildren, Jason (Emmalie) Anderson, Corey Anderson, Colin (Emily) McCormack, Kathleen (Jon Gray) McCormack, Daniel (Anna Wise) Mattes, Jessica (Ryne) Nietert, Maxwell Martens and Mitchell Martens; six great-grandchildren, Natalie Anderson, Chloe Anderson, Stella Gray, Vincent Mattes, Giovani Mattes and James Mattes; brother-in-law, Robert McShane of Cedar Rapids; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his parents; three sisters, Mary (Fay) Wisehart, Lois McCormack and Anne (James) Neely; father and mother-in-law, Clarence and Dorothy McShane; and brother-in-law, Dean McShane.
