Jerome “Jerry” Leo Krejci, 80, of Mount Vernon, Iowa, passed away on June 16, 2025, at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics, Iowa City, Iowa. Visitation will be held on Monday, June 23, 2025, from 10:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m. and a Sharing of Memories and Stories from 12:00 – 1:30 p.m. at Stewart Baxter Funeral & Memorial Services, Mount Vernon. The burial will immediately take place after at Campbell Cemetery and a reception to follow at Gwen’s Restaurant, Lisbon, Iowa.
Jerry was born on December 25, 1944, in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, son to Leo and Sylvia (Novak) Krejci. He graduated from Mount Vernon High School in 1963 and was a proud honorary AXE member.
Jerry took over operations at the farm when he turned sixteen years old. He performed various work, including concrete work on original construction of Interstate-80, iron work on construction of the University of Iowa Medical Building, Gwen’s Restaurant, Ely Meter Reader, hired hand, contractor at Cargill, and collector of many things.
He is survived by his sister, Mary (Jim) Burr; fiancé, Betty Weaver; nieces and nephews, Leo, Chris, Steve, and Jim French, Mark Woodward, Chuck (Melissa) Woodward, Mary (John) McConnell, Lisa (Bill) Hamilton, Jenna Burr, Lynda Burr, and Marra (John) Pienta; and Betty’s children, Cliff and Todd.
Jerry was preceded in death by his parents, sisters, Sylvia French and Frances (Bud) Woodward; and a niece, Cathy.
