Jeanne M. Taylor, 67, of Independence, IA, died on Wednesday, October 18, 2023, at her home in Independence.

Jeanne was born on November 28, 1955, at the Finley Hospital in Dubuque, IA. At the age of nine Jeanne moved to Independence, IA, to become part of the Harry E. and Imogene (Hansen) Taylor family. She attended the Independence Community Schools. In 1973, Jeanne married John Vanous, and they made their home together on the Vanous farm in rural Quasqueton, IA. Together they raised two children; Jeremiah and Jenny. They later divorced in 1987.

She worked for several years as a Certified Nursing Assistant at the People’s Memorial Hospital in Independence, IA. She enjoyed helping care for the many members of the community who came through the hospital as patients, during her time there. When she moved on from the hospital, she went to work as a housekeeper at the Harmony House in Waterloo, IA, and later as a Packer at Iowa Ham.

Jeanne was very artistic and enjoyed painting and drawing in her spare time. She was known for having a heart the size of the county and enjoyed talking to people about anything. She never met someone that was a stranger and always left people smiling and appreciated the humor in the conversations.

She is survived by her mother, Imogene Taylor, Independence, IA, her children, Jeremiah and Jenny, her sister Lorraine “Lorry” (Ward) Richards, Grundy Center, IA, an Uncle Harold (Sharon) Hansen, and several nieces and nephews.

Jeanne is preceded in death by her father, Harry Taylor.

A Funeral Service will be held at 11 AM on Tuesday, October 23, 2023, at the Reiff Family Center – Funeral Home & Crematory in Independence, IA, with Paster Ward Richards officiating. Burial will be held at East Lawn Cemetery in Eldora, IA. A Visitation will be held from 5 PM until 7 PM on Monday, October 22nd at the funeral home.
