Jean N. Harrell

Jean N. Harrell nee Boden, age 84, of Chicago. Beloved wife of  C. H. “Pete” Harrell for 66 wonderful years. Devoted mother to Gary (Marylou) Harrell, Tod (Diane) Harrell, and Bryan (Tammi Tyson) Harrell. Dear sister to Linda (the late Ken) Zoellner. Proud grandmother to Vicki, Travis, Jake, Zach, and Max and aunt to Patty, Susie (late), and Billy. Preceded in death by parents, Viola and Otto Jordan. Jean loved listening to Elvis, eating pizza, and traveling, especially to Gatlinburg, Tennessee and The Great Smokey Mountains. Jean dropped out of high school at the age of seventeen to marry Pete. She became a switchboard operator for Illinois Bell.  Because Jean was a seeker of knowledge and determined to graduate, she returned to complete her GED at the age of forty-five. She then furthered her education at Wright Junior College, earning her certificate in key punch. Jean then worked another 10 years for the Signature Group of Montgomery Ward. Every year she would gift Christmas ornaments to her neighbors. Her spirit, love, and ornaments will be tremendously missed. The family would like to thank Dr. Rachel Amdur of Northwestern Memorial Hospital for her wonderful care and advocacy.  Also thankful for the love and support of Hillary, John, and Mark and the overwhelming generosity of Keith and Sara. A visitation will be held Monday, December 14, at Smith-Corcoran Funeral Home, 6150 N. Cicero Ave. Chicago IL from 10:00am-11:30am. There will be a prayer service at 11:30am. Interment at Memorial Park Cemetery to follow. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to PAWS Chicago, https://www.pawschicago.org/how-to-help/donate/  For more information, please call 773-736-3833.
