Janice Marie Merrill White
- March 11, 2022
Janice Marie Merrill White, 78, of Hendersonville, North Carolina, went home to be with the Lord on Thursday, March 10, 2022, after an extended illness. She was born on Saturday, July 03, 1943, and grew up in Transylvania County, North Carolina where she was a member of Enon Baptist Church and graduated from Brevard High School in 1961. She was the only child of Agnes Wilson Merrill.
Her lifelong dream and calling were to become a Registered Nurse. She enrolled in Memorial Mission School of Nursing where she graduated in 1964 and led the North Carolina Student Nurse Association, as President. Janice started working at Margaret R. Pardee Memorial Hospital after graduation, where she practiced her profession for 43 years. Her call to nursing took her from the pediatric floor to the ICU, then to home health where she retired in 2007. During her time at Pardee she received several awards, including the Young Career Women’s awarded by the Business and Professional Women’s Club, and Nurse of the Year.
Janice’s life was dedicated not only to her call to nursing, but to her family, whom she was dedicated and loved dearly. She was married in 1967 and had one son, Bryan.
She is survived by Bryan of Hendersonville and his wife, Jennifer. Her most proud accomplishments were her grandchildren, Austin and his wife, Sarah of Saluda, and Lillian White of Hendersonville, whom affectionately called her Gram-Gram.
She is preceded in death by her mother, several aunts, uncles, and cousins.
Janice lived a long life of servanthood to her Lord and Savior, her family, and her profession. She gave to those in need and always put everyone before herself. She was a true example of a Godly woman who will be missed by all who had the privilege to know her.
A funeral service will be held on Monday, March 14, 2022, at 3:00 p.m. in the Kirby Memorial Chapel of Shuler Funeral Home with Pastor David Stanford officiating. The family will receive friends from 2:00 p.m. until 3:00 p.m., prior to the service, at Shuler Funeral Home.
